Just pause every few bites, it is easier than trying to tell if you are satisfied while taking another bite.

I have to agree with this. You can eat whatever you want and not gain weight but the two main rules to live by are : Eat when hungry and stop when satisfied. I'm defiantly going by this starting tomorrow... I have been having tough relationships with food but I've learnt that if I want McDonalds I'll just have a small meal and eat slowly so I know when satisfied. Exercise is also critically important!

Well, dear "well-respected Dr" sir - as a dietitian, most would agree that my 5 year degree trumps a .com site when it comes to seeking nutrition information, but thanks for the link.

This post is not intended to be the sum total of nutrition advice, but a very sensible approach to include all the foods that you love in a mindful way. Food is about pleasure, culture, family, celebration etc. as much as it is about nutrition, and to live otherwise would be very sad indeed.

My point is that cookies and ice cream do have a place in a balanced diet, no nutritionist (or doctor) I know would argue with that. The trick is not to overdo it and to eat intuitively - and this advice is only a small part of the whole big picture and not intended to solely solve the problem of food in America today.

Cannot believe you are majoring in nutrition. I am a well known Dr. and this is terrible advice. The problem is that most of the food that people in the US eat today is really not food at all. Just because it exists does not mean its good in any quantity. For example, Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream is absolutely terrible for you. You are advising people who love the Caramel Fudge flavor or whatever to go eat it until they are full. They are destroying the body by eating this. Absolutely terrible for them. I'm not going to argue just try to shed some light for you. The last thing you want to be is a nutritionist with major health issues, which I guarantee if you follow the diet plan of eating whatever you like until you are full you will have. I saw someone mentioned that it's not a matter of not being able to stop eating, it's a matter of not wanting to. This is not exactly the case. Processed sugar has been shown to be less immediately harmful, but more addictive than cocaine. Read some real nutritional information. Start with:

www.naturalnews.com

I would give you more resources, however, you seem already severely lacking in nutritional knowledge that will truly bring people to their highest potential. What I would recommend to you is taking out all the junk in your diet for 6 months to a year and I will personally send you 1000 dollars if you do not feel infinitely better. You will realize you no longer even want ice cream. In fact, it will look disgusting. Not to mention the negative effects of pastuerized milk on your body. Check out notmilk.com Your body will not intuitively want something that is not nourishing if it is in optimal condition. Trust me, I started off worse than you. Please do not take this as a personal attack on your methods and beliefs. Rather, think of it as a person who has lived and experienced what really works trying to spread the correct information. There is no reason you should die of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, break your hip when you are old, lose your eyesight. I sincerely hope you take this information and do further research yourself. How quickly would your clients, as a nuttritionist , either leave you or realize there has been very little progress if you told people to eat whatever they want but stop when they are full. Go ahead, fill up on the coffee cake, pancakes and syrup in the morning. It's what I love and I could eat probably 10 pancakes plus a piece of coffee cake with butter and syrup on the cakes. Every morning that will be my meal. For lunch I really really like McDonalds. French fries are vegetables arent they? I have lettuce on my burger. I love the taste of the food but I'm kinda hungry. Maybe I'll get two double cheeseburgers and a large fries but I really love the frosty at Wendy's so I might have to go get one of those too. Not full yet? Run back and grab an apple pie. They are so so good. I'll exercise before my dinner of whatevers quick and easy followed by more ice cream for dessert and I should be in good shape. Honestly girl? Honestly?

The human being was designed to eat when hungry, stop when not. However, caveman didn't have all these naughty treats and other junk food, only the REAL, whole, goodstuff - they are the "original" human being.

We are also designed to do daily exercise, again, our cavemen ancestors would hunt or collect their food - very busy, outgoing activities.

So, eat when you are hungry, perform as much daily exercise as possible (this will also make you feel hungrier - feed the extra hunger urges - this will in turn guide your daily calorie intake without you having to even look at the nutritional content).

DO NOT think you HAVE to have breakfast, think, our example caveman would wake up and have his ceral or eggs and bacon every morning? No! The body is designed to run on empty as much as it is on full. A caveman would have to hunt for food before they could eat. So for food timings - eat when you hungry too! It doesn't matter if you get 3 meals or 6 during a day, as long as you no longer have a hunger your body is getting the required intake.

In regard to my first paragraph, sure you can eat what you want, but ideally keeping to a 90:10 rule is the BEST for HEALTH, that is having what you like 10% of meals during the week. I know this is going against what is stated in this post, but I am just giving an ideal healthy situation. the 90% that is left should be filled full of healthy NATURAL WHOLEFOODS - basically imagine being our caveman friend, what would be avaiable for you to eat? Fruits, veg, meats, eggs, nuts, berries, fish, potatoes, rice - anything that can be killed, found or collected WITHOUT human intervention (that means no processed foods or wheats or grains such as BREADS! God forbid!). FAT is not your enemy as it actually just as important to your body as protein, carbs is a bit of a hot topic, as they aren't actually required at all to live healthly on (topic for another day), they are also pretty much the main cause of obessesity.
